HOSPITAL PAYMENTS

CASH REBATES REJECTED From Our Own Correspondent TADMARCMJI, Monday. The Taumarunui district branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union recently evolved a scheme for payment of hospital fees, designed m the interest of ratepayers. Briefly it was that cash rebates on a ratio with those allowed to friendly society members should be allowed to i ratepayers and their families. The ! proposal received a good deal of local body support, the Kaitieke County Council suggesting that a slight increase in the daily charges might be made. The question was placed before the Director-General of Health, too, who has advised the Hospital Board that the department could not approve the proposal. It was pointed out that the friendly societies were an organised body, giving a security guarantee over its members. The board could not reasonably extend the same discounts to ratepayers who paid cash, though a reasonable discount not exceeding 15 per cent, might be allowed to encourage prompt repayment of fees. The board resolved to refuse the W 7 .D.F.U.’s request. Mr. Beautrais gave notice of motion for the next meeting: "That the board consider allowing 10 per cent, discount off all ordinary accounts if paid within one month."
