arrived from London yesterday, to assume the leadership of an attempt to clean up the vicious conditions in ■what has been termed “Chicago’s direst hour of need.” Mr. Dawes is

Some hope is held of his acceptance of the post, in view of the fact that he will direct the work In 1933 of the Chicago World’s Fair. A meeting will be held on Monday of the directing heads of the various civic and private bodies, for mapping out the campaign against gang lawlessnes, and it is believed that an invitation to Mr. Dawes may then be issued.
