Mr. Fenton said that Australia’s fi r _ anc-es were generally better on the other side but the whole world was passing through a period of depression. Asked if Australia was having much difficulty’ in raising loans abroad, Mr Fenton made the remarks quoted above. “We propose more and more to borrow from our own people.’’ he continued. “There is money in the country and Government loans will keep j; there.” Financiers in London had no fears for Australia, Mr. Fenton continued. The Commonwealth had wonderful recuperative powers and would successfully come out of her present depressions. “Some of the worst enemies of Aastralia are some newspapers and wealthy people,” he remarked, when referring to statements abroad of Australia’s present condition.
