BRITISH TEST TEAM
VIRTUALLY THE SAME AS PLAYED OTAGO REFEREE NOMINATED Special to THE SUH DUNEDIN, Today. The British Rugby team this morning nominated Mr. S. Hollander, of Christchurch, who controlled Saturday’s match against Otago, as referee in the first test next Saturday. As the British team had the privilege of nominating a referee for the first test only from among those it has played under to date, Mr. Hollander’s nomination means that he is automatically appointed. His control of Saturday’s game was the subject of handsome tributes from both sides. Although he penalised Britain 12 times and Otago only once, the British team was very satisfied with his display. The British team for the test has not yet been finalised; but if Is understood that there will not be more than one or at most two changes in Saturday’s team, and possibly there will be none at all. Saturday’s team was as follows:—Backs. —Bassett, Morley, Aarvold, Bowcott, Reeve, Spong, Murray. Forwards.—Rew Parker, O’Neill, Black, Farrell, Ivor Jones, Beamish, Hodgson. Serious training is being undertaken this week, beginning this morning, when the team practised hadling, dribbling, kicking, passing, and scrumwork at Carisbrook ground. As evidence that Saturday’s team will most probably be the test side, it was kept together in most of the phases pf this morning’s practice. After Saturday’s game, Bowcott developed a badly swollen wrist, while Mvirley has a badly bruised finger; but in both cases the injury is not likely to keep them out of the test side. Today's was a full turnout of the complete party except Sobey. The British team’s heavy defeat of Otago is reviewed on Page 11.
