In the* international lawn tennis match at Wimbledon between women’s teams from America and Britain for the Wightman Cup, Britain won by four matches to three. In the play on Friday, Mrs. Helen-Wills-Moody (America) beat Miss Joan Fry, G —l, 6 —l. Mrs. Watson (Britain) beat Miss Helen Jacobs, 2—6, 6—2, 6 —4. In the doubles, Misses Harvey and Fry (Britain) beat Misses Cross and Palfrey, 2 —6, 6 —2, 6—4. . In the games yesterday, in the singles, Miss Jacobs beat Miss Fry, 60, 6—3; Mrs. Wills-Moody beat Mrs. Watson, 7 —5, 6—l; Miss Mudford (Britain) beat Miss Palfrey, 6—o, 6—2. In the doubles matches today Hopman and Willard will piiay Gasilini and de Morpurgo, and in the singles on Monday Hopman will meet de Morpurgo. and Crawford will play Stefani. Both singles were played under most trying conditions, owing to the crowd’s barracking and anticipating the linesmen’s decisions by calling out before the ball had touched the ground, which was most disconcerting to Hopman. Stefani played an excellent game, and his passing shots were exceptionally strong. Crawford was not at the top of his form. PRAGUE, Saturday.
