MONTHLY MEETING OF HOSPITAL AUXILIARY

COMMITTEES BUSY

The monthly meeting of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary was held in the hospital board room on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. Alfred Kidd was in the chair, and there were also present Mrs. A. ID. Campbell and 23 members of the council.

Mrs. Kidd welcomed Mrs. Maben, the new secretary for Mrs. Tiarks’s motor excursion committee, before the business of the meeting was commenced. Arrangements for Hospital Week from June 22 to June 2S are going on well. Among other activities a cabaret wi.J be held on Wednesday, June 25, and the annual street collection will take place on Friday, June 27. The branches and committees have had a busy month. Mrs. Neill, president of the Onehunga branch, reported that two concerts have been held at the infirmary during the month. The members have met at the infirmary each week to sew, sweets have been distributed, and a number of books have been added to the library. This branch is also purchasing 12 easy chairs for the old men’s ward. Mrs. Donaldson reported that a large parcel of clothing was sent to the children’s ward at the Public Hospital by the Newmarket branch, and the Mount Eden branch, with Mrs. Potter as president. has carried on its usual activities, visiting the sick both in the hospital and after they had gone home. Coal and firewood and warm clothing have been given to needy cases, and this branch also contributed £»*f garments to the depot during May. Mrs. Wettenhall reported on the activities of the AY ays and Means Committee and Mrs. Wakeman on the purchasing for the month. WARM CLOTHING

Mrs. Carr-Smith, convener of the sewing circle, reported that 28 garments were delivered at the depot for th© month, and the workers, who meet once a week, are busy making up warm clothing for the coming cold months. Mrs. Tiarks’s motor excursion committee took the patients for their usual weekly drives, and Mrs. Drysdale and Mrs. Hugh Maguire attended to all parcel transport. Mrs. Pankhurst reported that the visiting committee has added to its number and has visited the hospital distributing books and jam and giving help to needy casus. Miss Ormond reported on her investigation work, and Mrs. Nutter, secretarv for the junior branch, reported that it had sent in over 80 garments <o St. Helen’s Hospital, a very praiseworthy total for the short time it had been working. The secretary reported that 320 gar ments, two bundles of material, magazines, jam and a donation of eight sacks of apples from Mrs. Izard, of Henderson, had been received. The Te Atatu Women’s Institute made up 21 garments and other workers were responsible for 25 garments. Among the donations received were 125 garments from the Northcote Women’s Progressive League. Correspondence was read and received and accounts were passed for payment,
