STRAND

“SLIGHTLY SCARLET” Adventure, love, laughter, and beautiful clothes and settings are the features of “Slightly Scarlet,” the Evelyn Brent-Clive Brook co-starring Paramount picture which is at the Strand Theatre. The story of “Slightly Scarlet” abounds in action. It is one of the new type talking motion pictures, a fast-moving plot depending on action for its climaxes, enhanced and vivified by smart dialogue. Evelyn Brent and Clive Brook made Paramount’s first all-talking success together. It was “Interference.” Since that time they have both risen rapidly in the ranks of motion picture stars. Brook is noted for his suave, polished performance. Miss Brent has earned for herself the title of “queen of melodrama.” In addition to Miss Brent, Brook, and Paul Lukas, the cast includes ’Helen Ware, Morgan Parley, and Henry Wadsworth. Virginia Bruce, a beautiful blonde actress, recently given a long-term contract by Paramount, here has an important support role. An entire American Wool worth store was built and stocked for “The Girl From Woolworth’s,” starring Alice White at the Strand Theatre. Some scenes were made in this studio store, and others were obtained in a famous ten-cent store on Hollywood Boulevard where the stars often shop. William Beaudine directed this romance of modern youth and Charles Delaney plays opposite the star. It is a First National talking picture.
