RIALTO, NEWMARKET

If husbands step out, why should not their wives do likewise? That is the question asked and hilariously answered in “Why Leave Home? ’ all-talking, singing, and dancing Fox Movietone at the Rialto Theatre. Bubbling with a never-ending stream of delightful humour, and containing a haunting group of song numbers that are irresistible, “Why Leave Home?” the screen adaptation of the musical comedy, “Cradle Snatchers,” is even funnier than the footlight production. “Why Leave Home?” is the story of three wives whose husbands take a hunting trip. That is, they say they are going hunting, but. as a matter of fact they take three adorable chorus girls on a little excursion. “Syncopation” is the title of the second feature. This is a tuneful jazz production, introducing Fred Waring’s Pennsylvanians’ Orchestra. CRYSTAL PALACE, MT. EDEN Two particularly fire talkies make up the current programme at the Crystal Palace Theatre, Mount Eden Road. The first of these is “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” an engrossing tale of New York night club and cabaret life, starring Harry Richman, one of the most famous of Broadway’s entertainers. It is a singing, dancing and musical attraction. The second big attraction is “The Delightful Rogue,” a merry tale of a very modern pirate in the tropic seas. Rod La Rocque and Rita La Roy are the stars. EMPRESS “Untamed,” a talkie starring Joan Crawford, is the current attraction at the Empress Theatre, Newton. On the eve of success, the father is killed, however, and his brother and the latter’s bosom friend are appointed to negotiate the deeds, administer the property an<l take care of Bingo.
