PENALISED FOR EPSOM
Three members of W. J. Tom
kinson’s team for the Auckland carnival were seen in action at Addington on Saturday. Two of his representatives, Home Voyage and Country King, won well.
The failure of the Addington tri» ■was Key Logan, a good favourite tor the Vinter Handicap, won by Trimmer. The Key de Oro gelding did not get away well and was never sighted afterward. The First Voyage trotter. Home Voyage, recently imported from Australia, gave a splendid display in winning the Stewards’ Handicap, registering 4.41 2-5 from a 4.49 mark. The ex-Aussie trotter has struck form at last and should get some more money. Home Voyage was originally handicapped for the Provincial Handicap at Epsom on Saturday on 4.00 ta second better than in the same class at Ashburton), but the fine victory lias earned Tomkinson's charge a penalty of OOy ds. Homo Voyage is now on S4yds, sharing the back markwith Anseline and Olive kelson. Country- lying, who attracted attention at Addington by being runner-up to Harold Logan when the latt r tramped 3.19 2-5 for 12 furlongs, yvon the saddle heat in splendid fashion. Despite his good showing at Christchurch and subsequent success at Dunedin, the John Dillon gelding was second choice on the machine. He never left the issue in doubt and ran 2.13 1-5. Country King was on the limit (4.40) of the two-mile Hobson Handicap or- Saturday at Alexandra Park and in the Marconi, 2.51 i limit, he had the front line. For his Ashburton success, Mr. Paul has renandicapped Country King to 4.39 in the longer event, and he figures on 12yds in the sprint.
