FIRES AT WANGANUI

TWO HOUSES BURNED Press Association WANGANUI, Sunday. There were two fires in Wanganui during the \peek--end. Early yesterday morning a seven-roomed house at Gonville, occupied by two elderly women, Mrs. S. A. Cox, the owner, and her sister, Mrs. E. J. Fraser, was destroyed. The occupants escaped by a window" in their night attire. The insurances were £ 800 on the house in the South British Office, and £3lO on the contents with the Insurance Office of Australia.

Yesterday afternoon four rooms of an unoccupied nine-roomed house on St. John’s Hill were gutted. The building was owned by Mr. C. V. Powell, of anganui. The insurances on the house and contents were £750 and £2lO respectively.
