AORANGI DELAYED

STORMY WEATHER ON VOYAGE LARGE SHIPMENT OF MAIL Southerly gales, heavy seas, and general stormy conditions were encountered by the Royal Mail liner Aorangi. which arrived at Auckland from Vancouver, via Honolulu and Suva, last evening. Clearing Suva at 4.30 p.m. last Thursday, the vessel ,ran directly into stormy weather, which continued unabated all the way to Auckland, and delayed her arrival by eight hours. The storm was not very severe, and the passengers, therefore, escaped any great inconvenience. Immediately after her arrival last evening the boat was examined by the port health officer and cleared the Customs, so that there was no further delay for the passengers after the vessel berthed at Prince’s Wharf this morning. An exceptionally large shipment of English and American mail was brought by the liner, and was landed this morning. The consignment consists of 2,827 bags for New Zealand, which is 1,000 bags more than is usually brought by the Pacific mail liners.

Of the total, 1.866 bags were taken on board at Vancouver and the other 961 bags, all American mail, were transhipped from the Matson liner Sierra at Honolulu The transhipping of the Sierra's mail has enabled it to reach New Zealand eight days earlier than if it had been taken to Sydney and transhipped at that po**t.
