RUSSIAN THEATRE TRAGEDY Stairway Collapses DEATH ROLL OF 28 IN THE STAMPEDE A FILM was being shown to 500 children and their parents in a Russian town when a fire broke out on the third floor and threw the audience into panic. The staircase collapsed in the rush, and 28 were burned or crushed to death. Many were injured. .
United P.A.—By Telegraph-Copyright Reed. 11.55 a.m. MOSCOW, Friday. A cinema holocaust occurred in a school at Kharkov, where a film was being shown to 500 children and parents.
The third floor became ignited and a panic followed. The crowd rushed the staircase, which collapsed. Twenty-eight were burned or crushed to death, while many were iniured.
