CRASH AGAINST POLE MOTHER AND SON HIT Before coming to rest on the footpath against an e’ectric-light pole, a driverless car, which careered down Parnell Road early yesterday after noon, knocked over Mrs. P. Wetherspoon and her son, aged six years The boy was unhurt, and Mrs. Wetherspoon was fortunate in escaping with onlv bruises and a bad shaking. The car, which was a sedan model, owned by Shorter’s Rental Cars. Shortland Street, had been hired out to Kong Ark, a Chinese greengrocer He left the car standing with the engine running about 300yds above the scene "f the mishap, and without attracting a great deal of attention it suddenly set off down the rise, rapidly gathering speed until reaching the Parnell Post Office, whep it swerved, mounted the footpath and struck an electriclight pole. The front axle was bent, one of the front wheels was almost wrenched off, while the main frame was badly twisted out of alignment. Three tyres were punctured.

Mrs. Wetherspo- n and her son were walking up Parnell Road at the time and were crossing Gibraltar Crescent when the car suddenly swerved in front of them. Mrs. Wetherspoon was struck by one of the mudguards and was thrown down, while the little boy was also flung upon the road.
