CIVIC
“HIGH SOCIETY” Another sensational triumph was scored by the most popular pair of screen sweethearts, Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, in their latest Fox Movietone musical romance, “High Society Blues,” at the Civic Theatre again last evening. There is no more charming couple in pictures than the winsome Miss Gaynor and the handsome and virile Farrell, and when they are given a proper vehicle, such as “High Society Blues. ’ they present a superlative entertainment that wins instant appeal. Both stars again sing, Miss Gaynor in her appealing voice which charms as no other voice we know of and Farrell in his crooning baritone. Both show a distinct advancemnt, musically, over “Sunny Side Up,” ample proof that this production is great
Five song n umbers are sung by the stars, of which at least “Just Lake a Story Book,” “I'm in the Market for You” and "Flea nor” seem certain of popularity. ‘ Just Like a Story Book” has the same piquant quality which made "I’m a Dreamer, Aren’t We All,” in “Sunny side Up.” me supporting cast, including William Collier, senr., Joyce Compton, lledda Hopper, Louise Fazenda and Lucien Littlefield, all contribute excellent performances. Brightly entertaining is the remainder of the Civic’s programme. A notable feature of the gazette is the short address by Amy Johnson in Sydney. Ted Ilenkell’s Civic Concert Orchestra play as overture a selection from “11 Trovatore,” and Fred Scholl plays the quartet from “Kigoletto.”
