AN ADVENTUROUS TRIP JUNIOR COLT AT RANDWICK Last week at Rand wick, AV. T. Dwyer had an unnamed importation on the track for the first time. Interest will attach to the progress of this colt, who is a three-year-old to English time. He arrived from England about four months ago, after a most adventurous voyage, and was then sent for a holiday in the country. Coming through the Channel, a violent gale was encountered, and the box containing this colt was swept across the iron deck, and smashed. The colt fell, and, owing to the slippery' nature of the deck, because the seas were sweeping on board, it was some time before he was raised to the perpendicular. His feet were then covered with canvas padding, and for four days, and until the storm abated, the colt stood alongside the officers’ quarters. Remarkable to relate, this colt, who is by Junior (by Symington from Scylla) from Last Ray, and who registered a couple of minor placings in England, reached Australia without a scratch. He was imported by Air. P. Keith, who has been importing horses ever since he first brought out Quinn’s Post and Bay' Rum early' in 1914. THE MAGPIE Danny Lewis, the most silent of Sydney’s trainers, has among his intimate friends Jerry' Carey', Randwick’s most loquacious trainer of thoroughbreds.

But the other day, when Trainer Carey' was in great form, and had done a great trial over a marathon course without a let-up, Danny Lewis interrupted him. “My word. Jerry',” he said, “if ever I get a colt by Magpie I’ll call it •Jerry' Carey.’ ”
