TARANAKI DAIRYMEN’S DISCUSSION PREMIUM ON QUALITY Press Association HAWERA, Friday
Eighty directors of the Federation of Taranaki Dairy Factories met at Hawera today to discuss Mr. P. O. Veale’s report on openness in cheese and the problems confronting the dairying industry.
Considerable discussion took place concerning the payment of a premium for finest cheese, and the following resolution was carried: —“That this meeting affirms the principle of payment of a premium on finest quality cheese, provided that recognition is given to the merits of pasteurised and unpasteurised cheese by grading according to market requirements; and, further, that a committee be appointed to confer with the dairy division of the Department of Agriculture and other cheese interests with a view to formulating a plan for the payment of a premium on finest grade cheese.”
A resolution was carried recommending the institution of compulsory milk grading, with differential payment according to grade, and an agreement to that effect is to be made by the federated factories.
