TOTAL FALLS BY 192 DECREASE IN AUCKLAND Pi ess A ssociation New PLYMOUTH, Friday. There were 5.067 unemplayed in New Zealand for the week ended on June 9, according- to a, statement issued today by the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour. Of this number 2,674 registered at labour bureaux and posi offices as being with dependants, while 2,393 had no dependants. The totnl shows a decrease of 192 compared with the figures at the end of the previous week. Details of the registrations in the cities are:—Auckland, with dependants, TOO; without dependants, 51)3; Wellington, 34 3. 304; Christchurch, 491. 421; Dunedin, 143, 124; Invercargill, 67, 63, The totals for the five centres, with the figures for the previous week in parentheses, are:—Auckland, 1,293 (1,380);
Wellington, 647 f6so>; Christchurch 915 L 911); Dunedin, 267 (336); Inver cargill. 135 (161).
PALMERSTON NORTH RELIEF
BIG SCHEME APPROVED Press Association PALMERSTON N., Friday. The Palmerston North Borough Council today approved a comprehensive scheme to provide unemployment relief work. A sum of £I,OOO will be transferred from the electricity account, and/with a Government subsidy of £2 for £l, will make £3,000 available. This will be devoted to roading and subdividing the reserve in F’itzherbert Avenue, which will be cut into 40 sections suitable for building upon. In addition. £350 will be spent in preparing a children’s playing area in Campbell Street.
The roading of the reserve will be reproductive, as each section will return £ 6 a year in rent, in addition to rates. The relief work is for bonafide Palmerston North residents only.
