Cut to Pieces

SHOCKING INDIAN SAVAGERY Police Officers Murdered HOMES BURNED IN FACTIONAL FIGHTS Ghastly scenes of brutality were witnessed in India, where several police inspectors were murdered, and the body of one of them cut to pieces and exhibited to the excited mob. Infuriated crowds in factional fights between Hindus and Moslems burned many homes and caused 400 casualties.

United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.5 a.m. DELHI, Thursday. Belated details regarding recent disorders in the Midnapore district show that the task of tracing the men guilty of an attack on the police patrol at the beginning of the month and the murder of the Indian sub-inspectors is proving very difficult. The body of one inspector is said to have been cut up and the pieces exhibited to the excited crowd. The attack was skilfully planned by Congress volunteers. As a result of serious clashes between Hindus and Moslems at Baroda City and the town of Ivatadwanj, in the State of Baroda, 400 combatants were injured. The trouble originated from the stoning of a Moslem ark during a Mohurrum festival procession. The

incensed Moslems attacked the Hindus, also the police, whose protection the latter had sought. The procession was dispersed, .but the Moslems continued to attack the Hindus and burned several of their houses. Armed police are now guarding Baroda City. Further clashes between Moslems and Hindus occurred at Caeca, Eastern Bengal—the scene of recent rio-ts. In retaliation for the burning of their houses Moslems stoned Hindus and fierce fighting ensued, which was quelled with difficulty by the police. An infuriated mob of thousands of Indians, armed with spears and daggers, attacked a party of police at a village near Calcutta last evening. The police opened fire, killing one and injuring many of the attackers.
