FOR CATHOLIC CHURCH FUNDS ENJOYABLE EVENING The committee of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Xorthcote, held a very successful dance in the Parish Hall. Birkenhead, on Wednesday evening, in aid of the church funds. Mr. K. ITarrison successfully carried out the duties of M.C., and Miss Phyllis La.nigan’s Snappy Jazz Orchestra supplied the dance music, which was greatly appreciated. Miss A'. Town and Mr. E. L. OLD-TIME DANCE BOATING CLUB FUNCTION Patrons of old-time dancing were well catered for at the clubhouse. Bayswater, on Wednesday evening, when the Takapuna Boating Club held one of its popular series of dances. The hall was beautifully decorated, and made a pretty background for the frocks of the dancers. Dance music was supplied by Mrs. W. Laurence’s Repasz Trio. Mr. J. W. Deacon acted as M.C. NATIONAL RESERVE MEETING OF THAMES BRANCH Keen appreciation of the efforts on behalf of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind was expressed in a letter from Mr. Clutha Mackenzie received by the Thames branch of the Women’s National Reserve, and read at its-last meeting. The president, Mrs. E. F. Adams, was in the chair, and among those present were Mesdames E. N. Miller, E. Newman, J. McLaren, A. Holman, J. Gemminga, B. Gilmer (Puru), J. Paterson, R. Lloyd, W. Green, Miss Reid and the hon. secretary, Mrs. F. M. Long. The reserve has decided that it will act as agents for the orders of goods from the Institute of the Blind, and also will go into the question of holding a street stall in Thames in the future to dispose of basket ware, etc., made by the blind workers. The second social afternoon of the winter session is to be held on Thursday, July 17, and a committee was set up to make the necessary arrangements. These social afternoons are promoted with the idea of assisting worthy causes, the last having realised the sum of £l7 3s 6d for the obstetrical appeal. ,

COMMUNITY SUNSHINE BRIDGE COMMITTEE ARRANGES PLEASANT AFTERNOON A most successful bridge afternoon held in the J.C.L. Tearooms yesterday was organised by the bridge committee of the Community Sunshine Association in aid of the funds. The tea tables were prettily decori ated with bowls of iceland poppies.
