Sir Thomas W'ilford, New Zealand High Commissioner in London, and Lady Wilford were present at the launching at New-eastle-on-Tyne of the 228 ft. oil-burn ing steamer Matai, for the New Zea land Government. The vessel is intended primarily for the lighthouse visitation circuit, but has special accommodation for the Governor-Gen-eral’s tours. Lady wmora christened the Matai and wished the ship’s occupants good fortune.
