AMONG THE BIG FISH
DIVER, IN SPECIAL SUIT, DESCENDS 800 FEET DEPTH RECORD CLAIMED Reed. 10.40 a.m. HAMILTON (Bermuda), Wed. A new deep-sea diving record is claimed for William Beebe, who descended 800 feet below the surface in a steel ball with fused quartz windows. The lowest depth previously attained was 325 feet. The steel sphere was fitted with apparatus to absorb the exhaled air. Telephone conversations were maintained between the surface and the diver, who expects to descend to half a mile with this apparatus.
