They were Miss Mavis Parkinson, aged about 19, and the two daughters, aged about two and four years respectively, of Mr Cecil Cave, of Goring Street, Opotiki. Miss Parkinson, who was looking after the children, took them to her mother’s home in the afternoon. She was returning with both children in a pram when a fishmonger’s car, driven by Mr. Fred. Mokomoko, struck the party, carrying them about 20 feet along the road. The car coming to a stop about a chain further on. The driver said he had been dazzled by the headlights of another car and did not see the party. The three were taken into a nearby house where they were examined by Dr. Candy, who ordered their immediate removal to hospital. Miss Parkinson is suffering from a broken wrist, injuries to both legs, one ankle and her back, also severe shock. The youngest child received head injuries and the other broken ribs.
