POLLS FOR NEWMARKET
DRAINAGE AND STREETS SCHEMES Two polls will probably be taken In the Newmarket Borough within the next few weeks. The first is expected to take place in about a month. The issues for the polls were considered at the meeting of the council last evening. The Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson presided. The ratepayers are to decide -whether the fire brigade and its appliances should be controlled by a district fire board. This is to be decided when the drainage loan is submitted. In connection with the drainage loan, application is to be made to the Local Government Loans Board for permission to . raise a supplementary loan of 10 per cent, on the 1923 loan of £11,500. A further loan of £4 000 would be require# for the total workon sewer No. 3, including the provision of subsidiary sewers and branches and the council decided to apply fopermission to place a further loan of tms sum before the ratepayers A—extra rate of id in the £ would 'be required to cover the amount of the interest and sinking fund.
The other poll to be taken next month concerns two schemes for street T^ e *? rst is for a loan or £ 00.000 for widening Station Street and the other is for £4,500 for the purchase of land and the construction of a roadway linking Crowhurst and Gillies Avenue. Both of these loans had been approved by the Loans Board.
