TO CALL AT NIUE ISLAND
TOFUA REPLACES MAUI POMARE The trip of the Maui Pomare, which was to have left Auckland for Niue Island and Apia last Tuesday, but was postponed, has now been definitely cancelled. Arrangements, whereby the Tofua will call at Niue Island and load at Apia, have been made by the Department of Internal Affairs and the Union Company. The Tofua is to leave Auckland at 11 o’clock on Saturday morning for Suva, Tonga and Apia, a,nd she will call at Niue Island en route. The cargo landed at the island will consist mostly of stores in order to eliminate the possibility of the inhabitants going short. If fruit cargo is taken aboard at Samoa, the Tofua will be unable to discharge or load at Suva on the return trip, but will only remain long enough to land and embark passengers. Fruit and other island produce that should have been loaded at Suva by the Tofua will be brought to Auckland by the Royal Mail liner Niagara, which is due at Suva from Vancouver on July 31, and at Auckland on July 15. The Tofua should clear Suva about July 2 and reach Auckland about July 6.
