AUCKLAND WINTER SHOW
INNOVATIONS THIS YEAR RECORD PROBABLE Many innovations that should attract considerable interest and attention are to be introduced at the Auckland Winter Show this month by tlie Agricultural and Pastoral Association. In the cooking competitions and livestock sections, there will be several unusual features. A new section, for master bakers, is one of the innovations. Entries are to be submitted from all parts of the Dominion, and three well-known firms have donated prize-money to the value of nearly £SO. Mr. W. F. O'Donnell explained the new schemes this morn- ; ing. Owing to the waste that occurs when entries in the baking and cooking sections are left on display for the duration of a ten-day show, it lias been decided that the food in the home industries section will stay at the show for four days. The space will then be taken by the Gas Company's for the special cake competition. Thereafter, the same area will be devoted to the entries in the masterbakers’ contest. Additional interest is given the home industries this year by the baking competition for primary' and secondary schoolgirls, and a further class open to the general public. There is also to be a. cake-decorating competition for professional pastrycooks. LIVESTOCK SECTION In the livestock section. the area will be occupied by dogs for the first four days. Then, for four days, poultvy* pigeons and canaries will take their place, and on the final two davs there will be an exhibition of industrial rabbits. The last four days of the exhibition will be given added interest hy a display* of pedigree dairv cattle with high production records. Demonstrations of this exhibit are to be given by qualified instructors and demonstrators appointed by the societies for the respective breeds on show. The lay-out and decoration of the fore-court are to receive special attenlioTi this year, and with entries coming in steadily already, it is expected to have a record show in more ways than one.
