HAWKER FINED

THEFT FROM HOUSE While hawking vegetables in the suburbs, Frederick Felix Clay, alias Frank Hagin, aged 34, entered a house and stole £3. He pleaded guilty to this charge in the Police Court this morning and was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. Chief-Detective Hammond said that although Clay did not have a hawker’s licence he went about the suburbs selling vegetables. After he had made a call at one house in. Ponsonby, it was noticed that a purse containing £3, was missing from the table. He was followed, and when taxed with the theft, he produced £ 3 from his sock. “He has got a lot of convictions and he is a dangerous man to have going round,” added Chief-Detective Hammond. “People cannot leave their doors open with any safety at all.”
