HOW TO ECONOMISE

Sir,— Allow me to suggest the following for the guidance of members of Parliament. to be put through at the coming session:—First of all, cut out any further expenditure on education, for two years, thus saving £8,000,000, less teachers’ salaries. Next. tax the bachelors and all unmarried females over the age of 30. Then a heavy tax on married couples who are both working. Sack half the members of Parliament and half the inside staff of all municipalities where more than 50 are employed. Encourage Art Unions, and especially a big Art Union for the Waitemata Bridge, and a tunnel to Morningside. etc. Also an Art Union to put through the Pokeno railway job. Suspend all military training for three years, or till the next war occurs. Have your readers any other suggestions? FED UP.
