BETTER DRAINAGE

PAPATOETOE’S NEEDS TOWN BOARD DISCUSSION It was reported at a meeting of the Papatoetoe Town Board last evening that the engineer had taken the levels at the junction of St. George Road and Rangitoto Avenue, and forwarded them to the Auckland Electric-Power Board, which intends to build offices on that corner. Before permanent levels can be finished for these sections, some new method of disposing of storm water must be discovered to alleviate flooding troubles in Rangitoto Avenue. In view of the present drains being inadequate and faulty, according to the engineer, the works committee will investigate. The question of installing larger drains in Hma Road, in conjunction with the Mamikau County Council, was also referred to the works committee.

The dedication of Bennett and Dulihanty’s Roads was accepted. A donation of £2 2s was made to the Workers’ Educational Association, and of £2 2s to the Great South Road Beautifying Society. The reserves committee reported that part of one wall of the dressing shed on the recreation ground had been broken, and the shower spray in the pavilion removed. A reward of £5 for information leading to the conviction of the vandals has been offered. The works committee reported that, in view of the possibility of the Auckland Electric-Power Board withdrawing the 10 per cent. allowance for street lighting on account of the breakdown at Arapuni, it had deferred the allocating of sites for extra lights in the district, pending further advice. The board’s solicitor will confer with the Manukau County Council’s solicitor regarding an agreement concerning the water supply scheme in the area adjoining the town.

The turncock reported that 357,000 gallons of water had been pumped from May 26 to June 7.

The clerk reported that thp general account was in debit £1,227 ss_6d.
