TUTOR OF ROYALTY
SIR HERBERT WARREN DEAD AT AGE OF 77 YEARS FAMED EDUCATIONALIST ReccL 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. The death is announced of Sir Herbert Warren, a noted educationalist, aged 77 years. During his presidency of the Magdalen College, he superintended the education of the Prince of Wales, Prince Cliichibu of Japan, and the late Prince Christian Victor. Sir Thomas Herbert Warren lived a career full of distinct scholastic achievements. His education at Clifton College, Balliol College, Oxford, and Hertford led him to gain honours in his fields of study, and later he became a Fellow and a tutor of Magdalen College, subsequently occupying the position of president there. From 1906-10, he was Vice Chancellor of Oxford University, and for the six succeeding years was Professor of Poetry there. As early as 1896, he was appointed by the Treasury to investigate the universities of Great Britain and until 1906 he sat as a member of the Consultative committee of the Board of Education. Sir Herbert was the author of a great many publications upon the poet’s and classic literature.
