WIFE-MURDERER TO SPEND HIS LIFE IN GAOL SENTENCE COMMUTED SYDNEY, Monday. The death sentence passed on Charles Britten, aged 50, who murdered his wife at Tamworth on March 20, has been commuted to imprisonment for life. Charles Jeffries Britten on April 30 was found guilty and sentenced to death on a charge of having murdered his wife. Henrietta Adelaide Marion Britten, at Tamworth on March 19. The jury save its verdict after only flve minutes’ retirement. The evidence for the prosecution showed that Britten appeared at the door of the dining-room with a gun, and, after shouting. “Stand clear,” shot his wife dead in the presence of her mother and children.
