ST. JAMES

“DISRAELI” “Disraeli,” the notable production in which George Arliss is seen as Britain's famous Prime Minister, is now in its fourth week at the St. James Theatre. The film shows the diplomatic struggle with Russia to gain the Suez Canal and thereby to protect India, and it also portrays how Disraeli was constantly shadowed by spies paid with Russian gold. It brings before the audience the Prime Minister's trials and triumphs, and gives an insight to the character of the great statesman. The manner in which Disraeli carried through his plans. how he had to threaten to smash the Bank of England in order to get the money he so badly needed, is shown in a realistic way. As Disraeli, George Arliss gives a superb characterisation of the man who fights a master game of intrigue and romance, in which there are thrills, brilliant dialogue, and tense drama. Three screenings are given daily, at II a.m., 2.15 p.m. and 8 p.m. The next attraction at the St. James will be the talking film version of the famous musical comedy, "No. No, Nanette.”
