READY FOR BIG FIGHT
WORLD HEAVY TITLE TO BE DECIDED THIS WEEK SCHMELING AND SHARKEY NEW YORK, Saturday. Jack Sharkey and Max Schmeling have entered upon a stage in their training for their bout for the world’s heavy-weight boxing championship on Thursday where experts are at odds about their condition. However, the best evidence seems to be that both men are fit and correctly tapering oh their work. There is some talk of the German, who probably will weigh 13st 41b, being at a disadvantage owing to Sharkey’s probable weight of 14st, but Schmeling impresses medical men who have examined him as being extremely vigorous. Schmeling sparred seven rounds today and will reduce his schedule by one round until Wednesday, when he will rest. He has been playing a great deal of golf, and opinion is divided about the effect of that on his condition. Sharkey’s glove-work now is confined to five rounds a day, and obviously he is restraining himself. He, too, will cease all work on Wednesday.
