NEARLY DID IT

\VITH the season fast on the * wane, Wrackeen made a bold bid to capture a two-mile heat before the curtain falls. On Saturday the Wrack four-year-old put up a hard .fight with Morning Sun for the big end of the purse in the Birthday Handicap, and she was only defeated by a small margin. Wrackeen appears in'the two-mile item at Ashburton on Saturday off the front of a 4.32 class. The mare is giving away a little to get in the field, but she may prove equal to the task.
