“GETTING OLD NOW” ANNUAL REUNION “You are now becoming like old veterans yourselves/' said General Sir George Richardson, responding to a toast at the annual reunion of the South African War Veterans last evening. “Year by year your numbers are decreasing. 1 hope it will help to bind you together.* “We look on the South African campaign as very important.” he continued, ‘‘lt brought out the weaknesses of our army, and showed us lessons which had to he learned, and in the future applied.” Sir George drew comparisons between the Great War and the South African campaign. Major T. P. Halpin presided over a wpll-attended meeting. The toast. "‘Kindred Associations,” was proposed by Colonel E. G. Fraser, who paid a tribute to that fast-diminishing body, the King’s Empire Veterans. “I noticed at the annual dinner no fewer than 40 had died since the last meeting.” he said.
‘‘l hope many of the South African veterans will join with the King’s Empire Veterans and keep the association going/’ said Mr. G. Bertram, replying on behalf of the King’s Empire Veterans. Mr. C. Padley, of the White Ensign Club, also replied to the toast. Other toasts were: “The Government,” proposed by Major Halpin, and replied to by Mr. G. C. Munris, M.P.; “Army, Navy, and Air Force,” proposed by Mr. C. G. Macindoe, and replied to by Lieut.-Colonel T. H. Dawson. Piano solos were given by Mr. W. Percevell.
