MOTORIST WRECKS POLE HAWERA IN DARKNESS From Our Own Correspondent NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. When a motorist crashed into a power pole about two miles south of Hawera, shortly after four o’clock on Thursday afternoon, he brought down the high and low tension wires, cutting off the power supply to Hawera. He did not inform the South Taranaki Electric-Power Board of the accident and consequently it was some time before a repair gang could find the break. In the meantime Hawera was in darkness, and many tradespeople requisitioned candles and lamps. Eventually it was discovered that the fault was about two miles south of Hawera on the main south road, and with the exception of a section in the vicinity of the break, power was restored about 4.55 p.m. A repair gang discoveerd a motorcar almost “wrapped round” a pole.
