THING OF BEAUTY
CITY’S ADDRESS PLEASES LORD BLEDISLOE “WORK OF HIGHEST ORDER” ' The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe* are greatly pleased with the illuminated address of welcome and album of New Zealand woods, presented to them by the City Council from the City of Auckland. In a letter to the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, Lord Bledisloe writes: “I find it difficult to express adequately to you and your colleagues the thanks of Lady Bledisloe and myself for the really beautiful illuminated address which reached me today and which embodied the warm welcome accorded to us by the citizens of Auckland shortly after our arrival in this Dominion. “It is a work of the highest order,” Lord Bledisloe continues. “Its illuminated type, its decorative pictures and, above all, its skilfully inlaid New Zealand native woods of great variety and beauty render it a production of considerable value and interest. It will be a treasured possession in our home and will serve to remind us not only of our many warm-hearted friends in this city and district but also of your magnificent bush timber which has for us so great a fascination.”
