MORE AVIATION LAURELS AHEAD FOR WOMEN?

BRILLIANT EXAMINEES There are signs and portents of more aviation laurels ahead for women in England and the coming maybe of a second Amy Johnson on to the field. From the British Air Ministry has been forwarded results of the examination for 2nd class air navigators’ licences. Two of the nine who passed —including three flight-lieutenants and a flying-officer whose main job is flying —were women, the Misses W. F. Spooner and F. M. Wood. 'They got 70 per cent, of the aggregate marks and not less than SO per cent, in any one subject. The subjects for the examination were hewilderingly technical. They included map and chart reading, meteorology, dead-reckoning, international legislation, navigation by wireless, the earth’s magnetism, compass reading, visual signalling and direction finding. A NEW WAY TO SERVE SMOKED FISH Smoked fillet makes a delicious dish if served with poached egrgs. To prepare, cut 111) of the fish into the required number of pieces, put in a stewpan, and pour boiling water over to cover, and leave it for five minutes. Drain and add to the fish J-pint each of milk and the same amount of water. Then add ioz of butter. Cover and simmer gently for five minutes, remove the fish to a hot dish, and put the gravy into a basin. Put loz of butter into a stewpan and blend with 3oz of flour; remove from fire, add the fish gravy, stirring gradually, then add the seasoning, consisting of some pepper and a little cayenne, and bring to the boil. Strain the sauce over the fish, and place the poached eggs on top. Garnish with a little parsley to serve.
