MAKING BIG WAR FILM “On location, making the film ‘All Quiet on the Western Front* at Corona Del Mar, California,” is the romanticsounding address given by Mr. Jack Stubbs when writing to a friend m Auckland. “We have been here two weeks and expect to be here a couple more,” he writes. “I have photographed some interesting scenes, and when I get back to Hollywood I’ll send you some of the best. This life is fascinating to me. I don’t mind sleeping in a tent and eating camp grub. Today we have 500 ‘extras’ to film in the battle sequences, half represent German soldiers and the other French. The battleground is a masterpiece—it surd looks the part with its endless vistas of trenches, dug-outs, barbed wire, shell holes and shattered trees. The ground is covered with lamp black lo darken the picture and make it more impressive. It should make a wonderful picture—the script is very satisfactory , and that means a lot toward its success.”
