FIRE DAMAGES LORRIES

PETROL ON HOT EXHAUST Damage to two motor-lorries and a shed in Parnell was caused when fire broke out under one of the lorries shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday. The fire appears to have been started by petrol leaking on to a hot exhaust pipe. A pedestrian noticed flames Issuing from underneath a ton truck, owned by Mr. S. Andrews, 23 Parnell Roaa, as it was being driven toward the garage. Ho followed the vehicle to the shed, on the property of Mr. J. Pitman. Tilden Street, where it was in flames. Tli© driver did not appear to have noticed the fire. The cab of the truck was destroyed before the Parnell Brigade arrived and extinguished the blaze. The fire had spread to a lorry belonging to Mr. J Mudford, Cracroft Street, Parnell, the cab of which was damaged, arid slight damage was done to the roof of the garage. Neither of the lorries was insured.
