A leter was received from the Birkenhead School Committee, conveying appreciation of the steps taken in regard to the provision of a hospital for the North Shore boroughs, and assuring the council of the committee's support. The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded a copy of the Order-in-Council constituting Birkenhead a fire board district, and asked the council to elect two members on the board. Crs. R. R. Hayman and A. G. Jasper were elected the council’s representatives. The election of the two members by the fire insurance companies will take place on June 25. The Mayor and Crs. Darlow and Hewson are to be the delegates at a meeting of local bodies called by the Auckland Hospital Board to discuss the question of unemployment relief on June 10. With reference to the question of hospital accommodation on the North Shore, the Devonport Borough Council advised that it nad decided to discuss the question with Mr. W. K. Howitt, the North Shore representative on the board, before expressing an opinion on the proposal. The secretary of the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association intimated that the Government had agreed to subsidise the Poppy Day fund £ for £. It was left to the parks committee to submit a scheme for this money to be spent on, in labour only.
