ILL-FEELING DENIED

PORTER PRAISES BRITISH SPORTSMANSHIP “FEELINGS MOST CORDIAL” Press Association WELLING TON, Today. Rumours that members of the British I team snubbed C. G. Porter, captain of the Wellington team, after the match on Tuesday, are emphatically denied by Porter. He says that the feelings between the Wellington team and the British team were most cordial and he was warmly congratulated by the visitors on the Wellington win. “If anything has happened that led to the impression, I will take the responsibility both on behalf of Mr. Baxter and Mr. Prentice of saying that it was never intended and was a misinterpretation,” declared the president of the Wellington Rugby Union, Dr. P F. McEvedy, yesterday, when his attention was drawn to the statement. “I have yet to learn that it has taken place, but if it did, I am certain it was | unintentional and never meant. “I have seen a lot of the British team,” the doctor added, “and they are sportsmen from A to Z both on and off the field. They are the finest, body of sportsmen that has been in New Zealand for many, many years I had the privilege of entertaining the British team this afternoon, and personally L have not heard of any such happening. I have yet to learn of any man in the team uttering a discourteous or derogatory word. Mr. Baxter and Mr. Prentice would be the last to offend any man.”
