HIGHER INTEREST RATE

AUCKLAND SAVINGS BANK With the decision of the trustee* yesterday to raise the rate of interest payable from 4$ per cent, to 4| per cent., the Auckland Savings Bank will be paying the highest rate of any banking institution in the which holds money for call for its depositors. N ception of the Dunedin Savings Bank, which is paying on the same rate, allows more than 4| per cent, interest. The manager. Mr. Clem Bartley, states that the higher rate was in operation here from February 7. 1927. to April 1. 1929. when it was reduced to the rate which has been ruling since. The bank has been making good profits and the trustees agreed that depositors should be able to share. The increase will operate from July 7.
