ISLAND KETCH SUNK
FOUNDERED IN HEAVY WEATHER DAMAGED ON REEF From Our Oron Correspondent SUVA, May 27. The auxiliary ketch Jan, well known in the Islands, foundered in a storm si.nd sank in two fathoms of water in Buca Bay, according to wireless advice received by the owners, Brown and Joske, Ltd., from Taveuni. The vessel was damaged on the voyfrom Suva and Levuka through touching a reef off Koro, and the heavy weather she encountered after temporary repairs were made apparently caused the repair material to slacken.
. ar t of the outward cargo went aown with the ship. It is believed, nowever, that there is a good prospect r refloating the vessel during low tides, when she will be in only a few feet of water. The Endeavour, equipped with salge gear, and staff, and carrying Mr. rf n f* of Marlow and Co., has left Suva scene of operations. The Jan was commanded by Captain t Uai J a Poto, an experienced masTi ‘ Yhe vessel was insured by the London, and Globe Coy.
