HOCKEY IN WELLINGTON

CITY V. UNIVERSITIES Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The hockey team representing the combined university colleges of New Zealand played the Wellington representative team at the Basin Reserve today, the game ending in a draw, four goals each. The teams were: Combined Universities. Crawley (Auckland), Brown (Auckland). Beifield (Otago), A. Wilson (Otago), E. Wilson (Otago), Radcliffe (Auckland), Simpson (Victoria), Howie (Otago), Watson (Otago), Taylor (Auckland). Hutton (Canterbury). Wellington.—Guy, Markes, K. Perrin, Joblin, Mahoney, Pylie, Philpotts. Macduff, Robb, Cohen, Rowe. The game was rather patchy in the early stages, but improved toward the middle of the first spell. Wellington appeared to have the advantage at the start, and it was not long before Robb scored. Wellington continued to attack and within a few minutes Robb scored again for Wellington. The University men were now combining better, and Simpson and Watson netted. There was no further score in the first spell. After the interval both teams played a faster game. The universities were soon on the offensive, and Howie scored. Universities, 3; Wellington, 2. Wellington then made a determined attack and Robb scored. Radcliffe next scored for the Universities, and before the end Mahoney evened. TE AROHA TOURNAMENT From Gar Oicn Correspondent TE AROHA, Tuesday. The women’s hockey tournament, held at Herriesville Showgrounds on Tuesday, was a decided success. Six teams competed, and play was keenly feught out. The final between Te Aroha and Waratah, after an exciting and willing game, resulted in a draw. After four five-minute spells, neither team scoring, it was decided that each team should hold the cup for six months. The Rev. Mr. Odell presented the cup to the captain of the Waratah team. Miss V. Shand, to hold for the first six months. The referees were Messrs. H. i Crickett. L. A. Doonan and 11. MUls.
