NEW PLYMOUTH TRAMS
FARE REDUCTION SCHEME BID FOR POPULARITY From Our Own Co7~respondent NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. Reorganisation of the tram service and reduction of fares on a concession ticket basis were decided upon by the Borough Council on Monday. The new system will come into operation on Monday and will be tried out for four months. The Mayor, Mr. H. V. S. Griffiths, said that the Finance Committee and the Electric Light and Tramways Committee had given careful consideration to the question of reducing fares. The ratepayers had said that the trams revenues were decreasing because the fares were too high and they were now going to be given the chance to prove their contention. If the trial was not successful and the revenues did not increase satisfactorily the council would have to consider returning to the old scale of fares or striking a special rate.
