Forbury Park Card

RELIEF TROTTING FIXTURE Good Fields Engaged SOUTHERN trotting fans are just now having a rare feast of the popular sport, and following practically immediately on the final day at Addington is the opening day of the special fixture at Dunedin. With recent form at the Forbury Park, Oamaru and Canterbury Park functions as a guide, backers tomorrow may be able to show a profitable day. “Abavdos” appends a review of the card.

When metropolitan trotting organisations last year were holding benefit fixtures for the relief of earthquake sufferers, the Forbury Park Club was unable to get a suitable date and its meeting was cancelled. Not to be outdone, however, in Its ambition to assist charity, the Southern body made an application to the Minister for Internal Affairs for a permit to hold a special meeting, the profits of which are to go toward allaying unemployment distress. The request was granted and owners have demonstrated their willingness to assist the project by responding in liberal fashion to the call for nominations and acceptances. The card, to be presented tomorrow, has drawn good fields and in several of the events high class is well represented. The chief heat contains nine improved pacers, all being off the limit. The race should resolve itself into a free-for-all, and the issue is decidedly open. In the second leg of the “double” some fine sprinters are engaged and another keen contest will be witnessed. Bayfield Handicap Twelve square-gaiters are carded to contest the opening event and off the front is Molly Nelson and Nelson Hugo, a promising pair, while the three-year-old Kilblrnle Dan should also be seen to advantage. All Thorpe won well at Oamaru, while Kereta and Repeta Mac are about due. Hydro is

another with pleasing credentials and Victor Bingen will be a nuisance to the opposition. Jade cannot be left out of calculations, but the fancies may be All Thorpe and Hydro. Domain Handicap Seventeen improving pacers will parade for this heat, in which the majority are off the front mark. Desert Rey and Radio will have friends, while Kibiringi should have a good chance in this field. Matchmaker was placed at Hawera and with a bit of improvement would have a say in the argument. Erin’s Chance and Ulm are a likely pair, and despite her 60yds handicap Lady Zephyr will give a lot of cheek. She claims a later engagement and If absent backers may want Matchmaker and Erin’s Chance. Beach Handicap Eleven is the main for the mile saddle item and some speedy customers are engaged. Harold Lee is threatening to win, while Peter Daunt will still have friends. Kreisler, if in the mood, would be decidedly dangerous. John Noble appears to like the weight on top and is sure to go a solid race, while the same applies to Jacky Logan, who beat John at Oamaru. Sunchild’s form of recent date suggests something better shortly and the Southerner may be at home here. There should be a good pool in which the bulk of the money promises to be on John Noble and Jacky Logan. Awarua Handicap As previously mentioned, the principal event of the day has drawn nine acceptors, all off the front mark. The race should be interesting, and is certainly full of possibilities. Kid Logan, Logan Hanlon and Hector's Own do not appeal as well as the others over a two-mile journey, while Lingfield has this year been disappointing, although

she is well placed in this society. Cyone ! has raced well over all distances, while Morning Sun has a pleasing record to date. Nelson de Oro is a recent winner and a real stayer, while Wrackeen, although not yet gaining a first ticket as a two-miler, is of putting up a great go. On form, Erin’» Fortune looks the hardest to dispose of, and with Wrackeen may be the prime fancy. Woodside Handicap Eighteen pacers of varying degree are booked to the part in the elevenfurlong encounter, with a baker’s dozen off the limit. Among this contingent, Danny Boy, Pro Rata, Festival and Ambleside, will prove a dangerous quartet. Pro Rata is not too reliable at the get away, otherwise he might be favourite. On the next line Is Lady Zephyr and Country King. The former may tackle the earlier improvers’ heat while Country King after his second yesterday to Harold Logan will see a short price. Of those further back, Imperial Bingen reads best. Most support may be for Country King and Lady Zephyr, or in the latter’s absence Ambleside. St. Clair Handicap A useful fot of straight-out trotters, capable of seeing out a two-mile journey, will go to the starting post for this contest. The front line presents a bold setting with such solid ones as Ambition, Gemlight, Repute, Scuttle and White Satin, all recent place-get-ters, engaged. The Australian Home Voyage should also be near ready now, while if in the right order Sea Queen would prove troublesome. Midland Is handily placed on 36 yards, but New Metford’s penalty for yesterday’s smart effort may keep this trotter out of the contest. Those further back are set a sound contract and the order may be White Satin and Midland. Renown Handicap This event represents the smallest field of the day, but seven competitors are a smart lot, and the favourite is not easy to find. Of the limit pair. Regal Voyage looks to hold the best prospect, and will take a lot of heading off. Lady Antrim is speedy and in form, while Suncross Is one to be reckoned with. Then there is Imperial Bingen, fresh from his dual success further south, and behind this trio comes Lydia, who should be well served by the small field. The back-marker, Lily Harold, is more than useful, but the job is a big one, with such good Improvers in front. The final figures may favour Imperial Bingen and Regal Voyage. Flying Handicap Ten names appear on the list for the final heat of the day, and the field is well represented for speed. Three on the end, Tony Victor, Royal Comrade and Warepa, can go fast, and

Tony may do best of them. On the next mark is Kid Logan, a hot one when she goes away correctly, Steel All, Lingfield and Muriel de Oro, and after her fine success at Addington last Saturday, the last named will claim most friends. Talent looks the pick of the remainder, but in a well - distributed pool the chief fancies may be Muriel de Oro and Tony Victor.
