GERMANY'S PLIGHT
SLUMP BRINGS STRIKES AND WAGE-CUTS PRODUCTION AT LOW LEVEL United P.A —By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.20 p.m. BERLIN, Tuesday. Economic depression is engulfing Germany, and leading to wholesale wage reductions. Seven thousand Becker workers had their wages reduced 10 per cent., and the Mansfield Corporation, which controls more than 90 per cent, of the German copper production, has insisted on a cut of 15 per cent. Fifteen thousand workers were locked out following the provocative action of Communist pickets by the textile and machinery manufacturers in Saxony. Experts believe that between two and three million workers will ultimately be affected by wage cuts. The production of iron and steel is the lowest since 1925. It is feared that strikes and lockouts will assume gigantic proportions in the coming months.
