COMFORTABLE WIN

AUSTRALIA ENDS WITH INNINGS IN HAND GAME WITH HAMPSHIRE United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. The Australian cricketers this morning continued their match against Hampshire at Southampton. When stumps were drawn on Saturday the county eleven had been dismissed for 151 runs and the visitors had made 82 for two wickets in their first innings, Bradman (47) and Kippax (3) being the not out men. The weather was fine today and the wicket soft after rain at the week-end. After an extension of time, the visitors repeated the Oxford performance, gaining an innings win in two days. With the exception of Bradman and McCabe, however, the visitors shaped badly. Kippax was easily caught at mid-on, and Woodfull had two chances before he was beaten. KIPPAX HAS COLD The captain is suffering from a severe cold, and should not be playing. Bradman, meanwhile, was hitting vigorously and scoring freely in all directions. He raced toward the century, punishing Boyes, from whom he scored 10 in one over. Bradman reached his fourth hundred of the tour after 135 minutes, and then requisitioned a new bat. He continued to display fierce hitting. McCabe was also forcible and timed well. The 200 took only 145 minutes. A new ball failed to quieten the batsmen. McCabe was hitting hard to all parts of the field, and he and Bradman put on 100 in the short space of 45 minutes.

Frequent changes of bowling had no effect. Herman came back, but the pair knocked 15 off his first over. McCabe’s innings ended when the partnership had added 141. He hit 12 boundaries. The total was then 282. Fairfax was caught at flue leg. Then four wickets fell for the addition of two runs. Bradman continued to hit fearlessly and was the last man out. He hit one six, 26 fours and gave a magnificent chanceless display. Boyes bowled splendidly throughout. WICKETS FALL FAST Hampshire’s second innings was a repetition of the first. Brown and Hosie scored 50 for the first wicket and then three wickets fell for seven. Hornibrook and Grimmett baffled the batsmen and at the time for play to cease nine men were out. The captains agreed to an extension of time. Grimmett’s seven victims bring his total to GO 'Wickets. The scores are: AUSTRALIA First Innings.
