HOOVER REBUFFED
BOTH HOUSES REJECT HIS PENSIONS BILL IMPORTANT DEFEAT Received 11.30 a.m. WASHINGTON, Monday. President Hoover suffered his first important political defeat when the Senate, by a vote of 61 to 18, and the House by 298 to 14, over-rode his veto of a Bill increasing the SpanishAmerican War veterans pensions. Officials expressed amazement particularly at the action of the House, which had followed the direction of White House almost exclusively in recent years.
