“THE BISHOP MURDER CASE" “The Bishop Murder Case,” playing to capacity audiences at the New Regent Theatre, is an example of what keen direction and intelligent acting can do with respect to putting over a successful mystery story on the screen. The Metro - Gold wyn - Mayer all-talk-ing thriller succeeds where so many have failed, beacuse it puts over its illusions effectively without resorting to the usual devices associated with this type of screen fare. Nick Cirinde and David Burton, co-direc-tors, were inspired with a number ot original touches which make this hair-raising vehicle very muck worth while nol only from the viewpoint of entertainment. but alsc as an ihsight intc wiiat enects ma'y be achieved witi expert photography. Kxcellent supports are also beins shown. Once again the Regent Theatre presents something original in the nev era of the screen. This time it’s “The Ship from Shanghai,” a sea storj coming on Friday. And it’s a thriller.' A carefree yachting party turns intc a voyage of terror and excitement: i howling hurricane leaves them drifting helplessly; love develops and is aimos crushed by hate; a mutinous crew i: dominated by a half-mad mate wh( has killed the captain, ruthlessly batters defenceless male passengers anc bargains with beautiful women, tor tured by an insatiable longing for fresl water. In the cast are Conrad Nagel anc ICay Johnson, who were co-featurec in “Dynamite," Carmel Myers, Holme. Herbert, Louis Wolheim and raaiv others.
